One of the best things you can do for yourself each day is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we get wrapped up in what’s next, and the complexity of everything that we forget to slow down and enjoy the simple things.
Among the problems that beset many of us is the idea that we have to be “busy” all the time. But what are you really accomplishing with all of this “busy-ness”?
The reality is that you might be stressing yourself out over nothing. At least, nothing that’s truly important.
Instead, consider stopping for a minute to savor life’s simple pleasures.
Taking a Life “Time Out”
One of the things I’ve started doing is taking a sort of “time out” with my life. In the morning, I like to enjoy a cup of Crio Bru. I drink it slow, and just enjoy the feeling of waking up in the morning. Well, enjoy it as much as it’s possible to do. Often, the effect is enhanced if I do a little yoga first.
It’s a simple thing, but my morning cup of cacao is a way for me to savor the simplicity of life before things get hectic.
I also like to take the time for an actual lunch. A few years ago, I used to eat my lunch while working. I would bring down to my home office and snatch bites in between writing and other work. It didn’t really allow me time to relax. It frustrated me that I was always working, and I longed for some downtime.
Now, I approach lunch a little differently. I make it a point to eat my lunch upstairs. Often, I read for pleasure while I eat lunch. It’s only about half an hour, but it’s a simple way for me to take a break in the middle of the day and detach from the frantic pace associated with writing for money. It’s a way for me to relax and add a little simplicity to my day.
Simple Pleasures Enhance Your Ability to Cope with Stress
The great thing about focusing on simple pleasures is that you can enhance your ability to cope with stress, and this, in turn, can help you improve your health. Not only does focusing on a simple pleasure help you improve your mental and emotional health, but you can also improve your physical health by taking a little time to slow down.
Not only that, but enhancing your ability to cope with stress can also help your relationships. I know that I’m a much more pleasant person to be around when I’ve taken care of myself. My relationships are better when I’ve taken the time to enjoy simple things.
The nice thing about adding simple pleasures to your life is the fact that they are so simple. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, or do something fancy, in order to enjoy your life. Slow down and notice some of the simple things that you like doing, and take the time to be grateful that you have these things in your life. You might be surprised at all the positive benefits that come when you slow down and take pleasure in a few simple things each day.
