It can be hard to fit exercise into your schedule, especially if you haven’t worked out for a long time. Creating any sort of health plan that you’ll actually stick to can be challenging when you have obligations and a life.
One of the ways that you can make it easier on yourself is to break up your exercise time. Instead of trying to go for 30 minutes straight — at least at first — consider using 10-minute workouts that can help you improve your fitness. You can start with 10 minutes and gradually increase the time you spend, or you can break up your workout and do 10 minutes three times a day.
It’s important to understand that a 10-minute workout can be a great way to fit some exercise into your daily schedule. However, remember that the bare minimum recommended for exercise is 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, plus muscle strengthening activities on at least two days of the week. So, one 10-minute session a day isn’t going to be enough. You can combine a 10-minute session with a brisk walk at lunch time or with some outside playtime with your kids.
But, even if you don’t get up to the recommended amount, 10 minutes of exercise each day is still better than no exercise at all. Here are some 10-minute workouts that can help you squeeze in some physical activity:
- 10-Minute Solution workouts: I have a few 10-Minute Solution workout videos, and they are very helpful. Each workout video has five different 10-minute workouts. You can do as many as you want, up to a 50-minute workout. There are a number of workouts meant for different fitness goals, and you can mix and match to fit your needs.
- Full-body workout from FitSugar: I also enjoy the full-body mini-crossfit workout from FitSugar. It’s a great way to get your heart rate up. You can get access to a number of other FitSugar workouts and other workouts from 10-minute workout pins on Pinterest.
- 10-Minute Workouts from Fitness magazine: Fitness magazine has a whole list of great workouts that can be done in 10 minutes or less. There are ab workouts, arm workouts, and more. Fitness also offers seven and eight minute workouts, as well as a couple 12-minute workouts.
- Easy workout for moms: Parenting offers a workout that it says is meant for busy moms, but it could work for anyone. The workout uses household items to help you tone up a bit.
- Fitappy workout: You can follow along with a workout from Fitappy. You can get a cardio workout that also works other major muscle groups, providing tone as well as calorie burning.
- Huffington Post short workouts: Depending on your fitness goals, you can choose from among a number of short workouts on Huffington Post. There is a list of short workouts tailored to different styles, including a 10-minute yoga workout.
- Real Simple circuit: You can also use a workout from Real Simple, which shows you how to do a workout with five two-minute circuits.
